Hawaii. Just the word makes you
think of great beaches. The waves tickling your toes as you let your worries
evaporate in the warm sun. But, believe it or not, there is more to this
island than just the sun and beaches. No, really, keep reading. You will see
what I mean.
The outdoor activities that Hawaii has to offer are almost unending. It
doesn’t matter whether you get to the activity by land, air or sea, you will
find something to do in Hawaii
First off, if you are a hiker, you will have the luxury of trails on every
one of the Hawaiian Islands. There are trails whether you are a beginner,
expert or somewhere in between. One of the states best hiking spots,
Haleakala, can be found on Maui. Diamond Head, located on Oahu, offers a
forty-five minute hike to the top. If you make it all the way, you will know
why you took the time to do it. From the top of Diamond Head, you will have
the most breathtaking views of Waikiki, Honolulu and the Pacific Ocean. Not
to be out done, the Big Island has the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which
houses the Kilauea Iki trail. It starts at the Thurston Lava Tubes and
offers five miles of Hawaiian beauty.
If hiking is not your thing and you would rather pedal your way through
Hawaii, you will not be left out. Haleakala offers a downhill ride that is
very enjoyable in both exercise and scenery. Then there is the Garden of the
Gods on Lanai. This looks like the surface of the moon with very colorful
rocks.
Another popular way to see this island is horseback riding. One of the
United States largest ranches, a sprawling 175,000 acres, Parker Ranch is on
the Big Island where you can pretend you are a cowboy for the afternoon.
Even though you may not think of it, Hawaii also has skiing for you to
enjoy. From late November through April, the peak of Mauna Kea, located on
the big island, is covered with snow. But, if you are inexperienced, you
should not attempt these slopes. They are not for the timid.
And, of course, there is the ocean. This is an area that should not be
overlooked. Believe it or not, some people have gone to the island and never
stepped foot in the water! Gentle waves along with the shallow water make
learning how to surf at Waikiki Beach perfect. Hanauma bay offers snorkeling
while off Lanai’s south shore are the Cathedrals, which is a wonderful SCUBA
diving location. Deep Sea fishing can be found off Kailua-Kona and the Tuna
and Marlin are ready to be caught. If you would like to kayak, head on over
to Kauai and go along the Napali Coast for some breath taking views.
If you want to see the island from the sky, almost every one of the Hawaiian
islands offer hang gliding lessons or helicopter rides. If you are a little
more adventurous, you can go skydiving on Oahu. Here, a licensed instructor
will jump out of the plane in tandem at 13,000 feet.
But that’s not all. You can also camp, hunt, sail, parasail and the list
goes on. So, when you are planning your trip to Hawaii, plan on doing
something or nothing! So take a look at the different sections of our web
site and pick out your to-do list on your next visit to Hawaii. .
