Building A Bamboo Fountain

You should consider using a bamboo fountain to liven up your garden.  These unique types of fountains were originally developed in Japan where they were used as deterrent to keep deer away from the fields of rice paddies.  It isn’t surprising that they were called “deer chasers”.

In the past, monks would use the bamboo fountain as a method for measuring the length of their mediations.  Today, more people are intrigued by the bamboo fountain because it is made of eco-friendly material.  Still, the bamboo fountain possesses a simple design and charm that attracts people.  The bamboo fountain is a flexible model so you can use them both indoors and outdoors.

If you want to make a bamboo fountain, all you need are few simple components.  You will need bamboo, tubing, a pump, a base, rod, screws, and container.  If you are constructing an outdoor bamboo fountain, it is wise to use a quality bamboo that will not crack under variable weather conditions.  When the bamboo fountain will be used inside, you may want to make it more attractive by polishing the surface.  Before you start constructing your bamboo fountain, you should also have the right tools including a screwdriver, a drill, and a wood saw.

The first step after you have all the parts for your bamboo fountain is to cut the bamboo sticks to required lengths.  Three large bamboo sticks are necessary for construction.  A stick will hold the nozzle while two other will hold the moving piece on the bamboo fountain.  The moving part of the bamboo fountain will gather and remove water once the water collected increases to certain level.  All three bamboo pieces will need to have holes drilled through the centers.  You need holes in your bamboo sticks pieces because a rod will be inserted in them to make the fountain operate with pivot action.

Your pipe will be ran through the middle of the bamboo stick to the pump.  The top of the pipe is fitted with a bamboo nozzle.  Now that this is all done, you can mount the fountain to a base.  Your bamboo fountain is properly constructed when water coming out of the nozzle falls inside the part of the fountain in motion.

Should you rather skip the building process for your bamboo fountain, you can always buy one at a home design store that carries bamboo fountains.

If you do get a bamboo fountain, you might like to know how to maintain one.  Maintenance focuses on two areas.  The first area is water pump care.  The pump must be kept underwater when in operation.  Lastly, clean the pump regularly.  The second aspect of bamboo fountain care is scheduled water replacement.  While you won’t have to change the water on a bamboo fountain that constantly operates, you still need to schedule a time so you’re not dealing with stinky water.
